Jim DeMint, Steve Hayes Headline Annual Conservative Conference
“The best defense against usurpatory government is an assertive citizenry.”
William F. Buckley, Jr.
Steve Hayes of Fox News/The Weekly Standard is the featured speaker at the Friday, April 19 dinner of the annual Pennsylvania Leadership Conference (PLC) in Harrisburg.
The conference, which runs through Saturday, April 20, will also include talks by the President of the Heritage Foundation and former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint, Governor Tom Corbett, and U.S. Senator Pat Toomey. PLC 2013 will launch with remarks by Frederick W. Anton III, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association – a primary sponsor of the event.
Last year, Senator Toomey praised Mr. Anton for his dedication and passion to the cause when he said, “Fred Anton is the senior statesman of the conservative movement in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and we thank you for your leadership.”
“I like to remind people that this is not a meeting of the Republican Party,” Anton said. “It’s a meeting of conservatives who are trying to make sure the Republicans, and all elected officials, adopt and adhere to a more conservative agenda.”
The speeches, workshops, and panels over the two-day conference will encourage the attendees to reach out and spread a good-government and free enterprise message. The first panel Friday morning, in fact, will instruct attendees on how to more effectively use social media for promoting conservative principles.
“The conference has seen steady growth each year,” said PLC President Lowman Henry. “But we know that there is even greater potential for growth. It’s a matter of reaching out and bringing more people into the conservative fold.”
One of the fast growing conservative bases, the Hispanic and Latino communities, will be represented in a Saturday morning panel, Conservative Faces of the Future, hosted by the Texas-based, The Libre Initiative.
The Initiative’s mission is to increase economic freedom and prosperity by promoting free enterprise, responsibility, and a more constitutionally limited government, resulting in a prosperous U.S. Hispanic and Latino community.
Other speakers at the Conference include:
U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, Congressman Keith Rothfus, Congressman Scott Perry, Fox News contributor Deneen Borelli, political analyst John Gizzi, Brent Bozell from the Media Research Center, John Fund of National Review, and FrackNation producer Ann McElhenney.
